OVER 150 women including 86 elected and appointed assembly women and other civil society organisations in the Northern Region have attended a conference to deliberate on how women can spearhead the developmental agenda in the region and the country as a whole.
The conference themed ”The Northern Assembly Women : Changing the face of Development” was organized by Northern Sector Action on Awareness Center ( NORSAAC) a local NGO base in Tamale and supported by IBIS.
The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna whose speech was read by the Sagnarigu District Chief Executive officer, Alhaji Mohammed Sogudu assured the women of the government’s determination to appoint more women to head and formulate policies for the total development of the country.
He said the government believed in the capability of women and the need to encourage women instead of disrespecting them and also make the effort of raising successful women in the country, he added.
He commended NORSAAC and IBIS for their effort in promoting and addressing issues affecting women and children in the region.
Madam Lena Alai, Acting Director, Department of Gender, Ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection urged the women to aim for political and other leadership roles to help develop the country.
