The Eastern Optimist Club of Ghana, a non-government organisation has put smiles on the faces of five elderly women in the Birem North District of the Eastern Region

The club presented a hamper each containing assorted items and GH?20.00 each to the women who hailed from Adadekrom, New Abirem, Old Abirem, Mpintimpi and Nkronan.

The president of the Eastern Regional Optimist Club of Ghana, Mr. Foster Oteng said the gesture was part of the club’s social corporate responsibility.

He said the club was a worldwide volunteer organisation made up of more than 2,500 local clubs whose members worked each day to make the future brighter by bringing smiles on the faces of the aged and bring out the best in children in their communities.

The Dufia of Ho-Hliha, Togbe Afele II, has urged traditional councils to embrace modern technology with great zeal and enthusiasm in order to attract progress to their areas.

He was speaking at the presentation of 15 desktop computers to each of the traditional areas in the Volta Region at a ceremony in Ho recently.

The business machines, valued at GH¢50,000, were procured for the traditional councils by the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV to enhance their work.

The beneficiary traditional councils are Asogli, Hokpe, Krachi, Buem and Ve.

The rest are Santrokofi, Nkonya, Peki, Awudome and Gbi.

The remaining are Anlo, Anfoega, Likpe, Tapa and Akpini.

The Volta Regional House of Chiefs was also presented with a colour laser printer.

Togbe Afele, who is also the Megbefia of Asogli, pointed out that the use of computers for secretarial and business activities was a millennium dictate which must be complied in all human endevours for smooth development, “even within the traditional councils”.
